God
Who IS God?
Who is God? God is God! How do you explain who is God? A new friend I met asked me that on Monday. I wondered how to tell him about God without antagonizing him, yet bring across the truth in a simple, straightforward manner. I said that, the question you should be asking is, not WHO is God, but why do I believe in God. And then we had a discussion about faith, which I realized was even more difficult to explain. In the end, I just looked at him with all sincerity and said, God is someone who loves you, very much.
I was very moved by his question, because I knew he asked not out of maliciousness, but out of curiosity, and also, I knew that he was searching for something. Something more in life.
The Bible says (we should) "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." 1 Peter 3:15.
I realised that our words are powerful, that despite all our flaws we are able to influence somebody to the gospel. And we are respected, in a sense, because of what we believe in. Everything we do and say, we are giving a REAL LIFE testimony, even to the smallest pantry aunty in our social circle, right up to our bosses and our parents.
How an online encyclopedia describes God:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God#Biblical_definition_of_God
Biblical definition of God
God according to the Bible is characterized not just as Creator, but also as the "Heavenly Father".
The Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) characterizes God by these attributes: "The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation." (Exodus 34:6–7)
The Hebrew Bible contains no systematic theology: No attempt is made to give a philosophical or rigorous definition of God, nor of how God acts in the world. It does not explicitly describe God's nature, exemplified by God's assertion in Exodus that "you cannot see my face; for man shall not see me and live". Nowhere in the Hebrew Bible are the words omnipotent, omniscient, or omnibenevolent used to define God in a systematic sense.
Although Scripture does not describe God systematically, it does provide a poetic depiction of God and His relationship with people. According to the Biblical historian Yehezkal Kaufmann, the essential innovation of Biblical theology was to posit a God that cares about people, and that cares about whether people care about Him. Some people believe that the Bible should be viewed as humanity's view of God, but theologian Abraham Joshua Heschel described the Biblical God as "anthropopathic", which means that one should read the Bible as God's view of humanity, and not as humanity's view of God.
Similarly, the New Testament contains little systematic theology: no philosophical or rigorous definition of God is given, nor of how God acts in the world; however the first of John's letters states: "God is light" (1 John 1:5), before he states: "God is love" (1 John 4:8).
The New Testament provides an implicit theology as it teaches that God interacted directly with people, in the person of Jesus, and that he subsequently sent the Holy Spirit. In this view, God becomes someone that can be seen and touched, and may speak and act in a manner easily perceived by humans, while also remaining transcendent and invisible. This appears to be a radical departure from the concepts of God found in Hebrew Bible. The New Testament's statements regarding the nature of God were eventually developed into the doctrine of the Trinity.
So maybe, my description was right after all.
God is someone who loves us very much.
Tell someone about how much God loves them, today!
(By the way, the picture is Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel on the ceiling, it shows Man(Adam) reaching out to God, and God depicted as reaching back to Adam. Cool, huh?)

Walking in the Word - Elijah - 1 Kings 17
Just wanted to share my sermon notes on 6 Nov.
Biblical Perspectives re: biblical prophesy and the end times.
Biblical Perspectives re: biblical prophesy and the end times.
- Prophets predict the future and provoke the future. Isaiah 6:10 and Jeremiah 1:10
- Prophetic visions of the future are rooted in the past. Prophets emerge to give warnings when Israel strayed.
- Evil deeds produce evil destiny. Repentance restores fortunes. Also, not all adversity is the result of sin. Jeremiah 2: 19 - 20, 4:18, 4:16, 4:14.
- Prophetic people stand in the gap and war against sin
The church is God's prophetic people of the end times.
- labour pains of the age to come
- not for prophets only Numbers 11: 29 (NLT)
Elijah & Elisha versus Baal
- who was Baal and what was Baalism ? 1 Kings 16: 29-34
- God reigns over Israel and no compromise 1 Kings 17
- God reigns over nature (rain) and creation
- God reigns over Baal (v 8-16) - purpose of miracles is to show God's sovereignty
- God reigns over life and death (v17-24)
Prophetic Posture
- powerful in private and powerful in public - no compromise - James 5:17-18, Matt 6:6, Col 3:3 Aidan's prayer
- Elijah is under the Word, not under the weather. Elijah comes because he is under the authority of God's word v 3 - 4, v5
- our relationship with God is a mission and not a rice bowl. LIVE IT WELL !
Thanksgiving! Summary & Further Reflection.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.
Psalm 107:1 (NIV)
Origin of Thanksgiving: fourth Thursday in November in the United States; second Monday in October in Canada; commemorates a feast held in 1621 by the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag.
Nevermind that thanksgiving is a holiday observed in America. Thanksgiving is relevant in our daily lives because 1 The.5:18: "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
My dear brothers and sisters, wasn't it a great time of reflecting on God's goodness and at the same time encouraging one another through it? I was personally encouraged that God is so real in your lives. Isn't it amazing for some of us that after life's storms, we saw God's light and purpose and emerged as more than conquerors in Christ? I know that we have become stronger and having ever-increasing faith. May I also exhort you not to stop telling the world that Jesus lives, therefore "go home and tell them how much the Lord has done for you"- MARK 5:19. Tell the world that Jesus live in you!
Therefore let thanksgiving be unceasing for the rest of the days of our lives, as we regconize that all good and perfect gifts comes from God alone!

Angels & Demons (Auditor's version)
Hi pple, just wanna share a couple of stuff that I found on the internet today......
Anyway, I was just surfing the net when I came across this website that gives detailed (yet easy enough to understand) translations of who exactly is the devil aka Satan.....
(FYI, this was a link to a review on the movie "The Exorcism of Emily Rose", I was just reading movie reviews in general hor....)
From this website, I actually found answers to the question that I've been having recently. (which our dear Rachel Lee still hasn't answered me......but nvm, I found my answer already. U dun give the auditor answer, the auditor can find answer somewhere else....)
I heard abt how 1/3 of the angels betrayed God and followed Satan......and I was curious to know how the Bible articulates this message across......
Ok, so this is what I learnt generally from the website:
1) God created 3 archangels: Lucifer, Michael, Gabriel
2) Lucifer (aka Satan) by his own accord betrayed God
3) He dragged 1/3 of God's angels with him to earth.....but nvm, still got 2/3 angels left. 2/3 still bigger than 1/3.
And here is the website: http://www.thercg.org/books/witd.html
Ok, as for accuracies, I am not sure.....but somehow, I feel that what's written in the website makes sense....If anyone feels that this is stumbling info, then I will remove this post.
Oh, I also found this http://www.rbc.org/ds/q1001/ published by RBC ministry, which I believe has some substance, cos their Daily Bread Devotionals are quite popular worldwide....
Ok...have a good week ahead guyz......the auditor is going to bore herself reading compliance manuals now......zzzzz.....

The SEED
Did you know that the word 'seed' is mentioned over 200 times in the Bible(KJV)?
SEED. Used in the Bible to describe the 'sowing and reaping' kingdom mentality to the Jewish farmers.
Passages shared (Acts 4:32-35 / Acts 6:1-4 / Acts 5:12-16, 42 )
" 12Meanwhile, the apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon's Colonnade. 13No one else dared to join them, though everyone had high regard for them. 14And more and more people believed and were brought to the Lord--crowds of both men and women. 15As a result of the apostles' work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter's shadow might fall across some of them as he went by. 16Crowds came in from the villages around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those possessed by evil spirits, and they were all healed."
The impact of the church on the community as seen in Acts, alive... What is MY impact on my community today? Am I planting seeds, of hope, to people who have hope deferred? Do I cherish seeds of 'care', or 'love', for my friends and family? Shall I plant a seed of 'peace', in office conflicts, where I can?
Let's give 'seeds' of encouragement to others in our community. People who need to hear the word of God again in their lives. People having exams, just blessing them with a verse. Others, in different cells, that we can encourage by giving this 'seed' to them, knowing that this is a care act in itself.
TODAY, commit to plant 5 seeds in our community. "Do not open until Jan 01 2006."
Two months later, we will see if it grows. =)
