Salut les amis,
My job deals with providing security officers for events & exhibitions, which is a rather seasonal industry. It is also a very competitive industry, with many security agencies for clients to choose from out there in the market. There is usually a clash of timing when many events and exhibitions are held concurrently. There would thus be a huge demand for security officers. But there will also be certain times when there are almost no events being held. This was was happened last month, July 2006.
During cell on Tue night 18 Jul, we prayed for God to provide work for me. Amazingly, the calls & e-mails started to pour in when I stepped into the office the next morning, Wed 19 Jul. Thu 20 Jul, a contract was signed to provide security officers for a SONY roadshow for the whole of the following week. Just like that, God provided! I did not have to do a single thing! And this is just the beginning!
As in any business, it is easier to get contracts through word of mouth, relationships, contacts, rather than cold calling sales techniques. People would be more willing to trust that you would do a good job if they know of someone close who had the same level of good service from you. SONY was already a client of ours.
Another contract which began as a cold call was also signed on Thu 20 Jul. God's mighty hand can be seen at work in more than one way here. To start with, corresponance with the client went extremely smoothly and FAST! In the few months that I had been sending out quotes, people would usually try and bargain for a better deal, a cheaper rate, discounts. They would also take some time to reply, presumably to get a few more other quotes for comparison purposes. NOT this client. The speed at which the contract was signed, sealed and delivered left me speechless! It seemed to me that God was speaking to my client to just accept all that I had to offer!
Payment terms of a 50% deposit and the remaining 50% to be paid immediately after the event / exhibiton was completed were rarely adhered to. Delays in payment were inevitable, sometimes taking up to a few months, even with the constant reminders for payment. Big MNCs, small sole proprietorships, they were all the same. "Send me the invoice," the client said, "And I'll pay the deposit." Without me even having to say a word! Who would VOLUNTEER to part with their hard earned money that easily? Very few I guess. Now pardon me for my lack of faith, but I was just wondering when the deposit would be paid? I received the cheque a week before the event commenced.
A third contract was also signed within this short period of time, with minimal fuss during correspondance too. The wonderful part? All 3 contracts will run consecutively, with not a single overlap of dates.
I can keep going on and on forever about all the contracts that seemingly fell our way, all the contacts in the industry that I made since I started work in December 2005 or all the miraculous interventions when I was super stressed out (tons of white hair and pimples! argh!) over disappearing acts of employees (industry norm) and all seemed lost - you know what I mean Shuan. But things will still turn out fine in the end.
~Praise the Lord!~ God is indeed Jehovah Jireh, my provider, who will supply all my needs!
Be blessed,
ken =)
